Mike Jones, Business Adviser, Social Business Wales:
“The great thing about this business is that it is a really commercially viable model, I’m pleased that with Social Business Wales support, we were able to put policies in place which have helped Choose2Reuse to turn a profit and set their sights on developing new markets in the future.
It has been great to see Choose2Reuse build up such a good reputation in the community as well, having Lee Waters AM go to visit the business recently was a real point of pride; it was great to see their hard work being recognised.”
Turning unwanted items into opportunities
Established in 2015, Choose2Reuse in Llanelli is a social enterprise which collects unwanted items from charity shops and donations and processes them for resale. By upcycling, bulk selling and processing items to be used as raw materials, Choose2Reuse not only stops tonnes of waste from going to landfill, but also creates employment and volunteering opportunities for people who struggle to find a way in to the labour market.
Choose2Reuse are passionate about their social impact, their main aim is to create opportunities for vulnerable people who have been out work for extended amounts of time.
“I’ve been an entrepreneur all my life, I’ve had businesses before, but I’m so happy that I can have a social impact with Choose2Reuse. It feels fabulous to help other people improve their lives. I’m doing all I can to move this business forward and grow – it can be hard, but I’m happy to do it; I’ve found my purpose.” Tanya, CEO, Choose2Reuse CIC
Social Business Wales worked with Choose2Reuse to put in place numerous business and HR policies, including a sustainability policy. The sustainability policy was particularly important, due to the nature of the enterprise; Choose2Reuse found that by effectively implementing this policy, they were able to reduce their operating costs, particularly in regards to transport utilisation. So as well as increasing their huge environmental impact, the sustainability policy also had a good financial impact as well.
Social Business Wales was also able to provide support for a successful loan application which has moved the enterprise into a stronger position of financial viability by sustaining their cash flow.
By working with Choose2Reuse on their on their forward marketing plan, which focusses largely on digital marketing and communication, Social Business Wales has helped the enterprise to create 2.7 FTE jobs for people who are normally marginalised from the world of employment.
